 | Near enough to the UK for a short break, but far enough to be in the heart of rural France and to get those all important extra degrees of warmth. We are in the ancient province of the Perche in the department of Orne, Basse Normandie, near the lovely mediaeval town of Bellême (5 mins) and half an hour from Le Mans.
The Gîtes:
The 2 two bedroomed gîtes, available together or separately, are in a restored farmhouse near the village of Igé in a very tranquil and pretty field/orchard setting. The farm (1797) was said to be a gift from Napoleon to a retiring soldier. Made of limestone and oak, the building has original beams, floor tiles and other features, and has recently been renovated. The half dozen other houses in our hamlet date from the same period, making the surroundings very attractive. |
Gîte 1 – La Joanne
La Joanne is a flexible and roomy family gite. It has a twin or double bedded bedroom on first floor with a splendid view through the dormer window.
There is a separate spacious shower/toilet room adjacent. A supplementary single bed can easily be added between the bedroom and shower room for an extra adult or older child.
The twin or double room on the ground floor also has its own shower/toilet room and looks out onto the orchard.
The living room is cosy and comfortable and has a wood-burning fireand a DVD player. It is cool in the summer and gets the afternoon and evening sunshine.
The spacious and very light kitchen/dining room is fully fitted with modern washing machine, fridge, micro-wave, dishwasher and cooker. The french window opens onto the terrace and barbecue area. There are swings just outside and a big area for football, badminton, volleyball or boules. Lovely open views to south and west. |  |
 | Gîte 2 – La Chouette
La Chouette (on the left hand side of the building) includes the original large farmhouse living room, which is now an integrated kitchen, living and dining room. This room has the original mantelpiece and tomette tiled floor. The kitchen area is spacious and fully equipped with a modern cooker, dishwasher, washing machine and fridge. A DVD player is provided in the living area
Upstairs is a very fine bedroom, well-proportioned with attractive original beams and a splendid open view through the dormer window. There is a double-bed and an additional single bed in this room, making it suitable as a family room. A cot bed can also be made available. A private shower/toilet room is adjacent.
On the ground-floor the twin-bedded room has an en suite shower/toilet room and a view onto the orchard.
With the exception of August, La Chouette is let as B&B accommodation unless there is a demand for it as a gîte. |
