Menorca map

Menorca is the most easterly of the Balearic Islands with a total extension of 689 square km between the capes of "La Mola" and "Bajolí". Menorca has two totally different zones - "Tramontana" and "Migjorn"; the northern zone, due to numerous faults in the terrain is more abrupt and the most beautiful natural harbours can be found in its irregular coastline. On the other hand, the southern zone has a gentle and homogeneous landscape, with deep valleys; its coastline is more rectilinear with cliffs and long beaches. We can find in the centre of the island its highest mountain with only 357.96 m.

Menorca is divided into eight townships: Maó, Ciutadella, Alaior, Ferreries, Es Mercadal, Es Castell, Sant Lluis and Es Migjorn. There are also three villages named Sant Climent, Llucmacanes and Fornells, the first two within the township of Maó and the third in Mercadal.

The capital of Menorca is Maó, known since ancient times for its natural harbour. Ciutadella is the second town of the island, former capital, where one can appreciate the beauty of its streets, squares and historical palaces.
